My name is Mia Holley. I'm just the average hip-hop loving, comic book reading, punk rocking, loudmouthed, photographer, movie appreciating, awkward, girly-girl that you can find anywhere. Oh wait, you can't. I guess that's why I'm here. And so; may the force be with you, oh great artists, intellectuals, vigilantes, and jedi's alike. Stay weird, my friends.

this is fun to read because it’s basically some dude saying rude, women’s-choices-are-all-made-for-the-benefit-of-men things
and then a short paragraph on why he is incorrect, and also sexist
purfect
my favorite:
“Cray High Heels — “We’re going to be honest for a moment: Not all of us are over 6’0” tall, and that bothers us. You may think looking like a giraffe is sexy, but all that’s doing is rubbing it in. And you wonder why we don’t approach your freakishly tall ass at the club.”
We say: If you can’t walk in your heels, that’s a problem. But if your heels are the first filter to keep bros with low self-esteem and a penchant for grade-school name calling at bay, that’s a bonus.”also maxi skirts
fuq off creepy boys
After reading this I have to wonder what these guys think women are allowed to wear. It’s nine pages of “Don’t wear this cool trendy thing (menswear, boyfriend blazers, maxi skirts, “granny clothes,” asymmetrical lines)” and then “We’re not suggesting women try to look hot in a conventional way” and a lot of trash-talking about heels and makeup. WHAT’S EVEN LEFT? I swear to god, this article is fabulous for poking holes in the theory that ladies all have to dress for men and “dressing for men” entails not wearing anything too “out-there,” but also not looking too feminine, because God forbid he think you’re high-maintenance or anything.
Thank god for the cool person who wrote this. And if some random dude thinks my standard Lady Max Fischer look (blazers, sweaters, button-downs, glasses, the occasional beret in the winter, always boots) isn’t hot… screw ‘em. I DON’T CARE IF YOU LIKE IT.
This article is more “we asked one douchey guy what he thinks looks good on women so the author could easily skewer his responses.”
Look, ladies AND gentleman, wear whatever you think looks good (because it will make you more confident) and more than likely, there’ll be someone down with your chosen style.
This article bothers me SO much. There is nothing I hate more when a man tells a woman that she should not wear this or that because HE doesn’t seem to like it. Same goes to women trying to change their man’s image. JUST STOP.
I’ve had boys in the past tell me what to do with my hair, makeup, wardrobe, what have you, and not to be completely turned off my criticism, but I have never been more offended. “Oh Mia, your hair looks silly pink, why don’t you just go back to normal hair colors?” Oh I dunno - maybe I wanted to try something different and was bored with everyday brown. Maybe I wanted to stand out. “Really? 5 inch heels to school? You’re trying way too hard!” Oh really? Because these Jeffrey Campbells are one of my most comfortable shoes, and, I can run to classes while carrying a canvas, camera, laptop, and coffee in one hand. “You shouldn’t wear makeup.” Why not? I can’t hide blemishes that I’m self conscious about? Or express myself through color on my eyes to enhance my style? “Why do you only wear black?” Well gee, I LIKE IT.
As a woman I can dress whichever way I bleeping want too. I can wear geometrical lines and shapes, crazy patterns, all black, menswear, grandma sweaters, intense makeup WHAT HAVE YOU. And no matter what, I’ll look good in whatever I’m wearing because I’ll FEEL GOOD about myself. That’s what style and fashion practically is - dressing and expressing yourself, celebrating your body shape through clothing that represents you and your inner voice. I don’t have to only wear what YOU want me to wear. I’m not going to dress to make you happy. Oh, the fact that I only wear all black bothers you? You find that my over the top way of dress is too intimidating? Too bad. It’s the way I want to dress and it’s the one thing I have that I genuinely believe sets me apart from everyone else, along with my art. I’m not dressing to please anyone else. I’m dressing to please myself.
So screw the short douchebags intimidated by high heels. Down with the assholes who don’t understand how important fashion and personal style may be to a girl. And you know what? Last time I checked, most guys LIKE to see a girl audacious enough to wear whatever the hell they want without conforming to any traditional way of dress. Most guys happen to like a girl who isn’t afraid to stand out and be her own person and GOOD FOR THEM.
If you want to follow a trend, follow it. Just most importantly - dress the way you bleeping want too, and you’ll be happy.
